Kosovo students suspend protests
Ethnic Albanian students in the Serb province of Kosovo say they have suspended a campaign of protests against the Serb authorities after two nights of demonstrations. A spokesman for the Independent Union of Albanian Students said it took the decision because of provocations and mistreatment. The students union said on Wednesday that it would hold daily marches until the end of the month. It is demanding the reopening of Albanian language schools closed in 1990 after Serbia took control of Kosovo. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
