Israeli army shells southern Lebanon killing one man

Israeli troops have shelled a village in southern Lebanon killing at least one man An Israeli army statement said the troops returned fire after being attacked and described the man as a guerrilla operating from property used by the Amal group in the village of Jmaijmeh.

Lebanese police are reported to have said he was a civilian.

In Beirut, Hezbollah issued a statement saying it carried out the attack on the Israeli army patrol.

The village of Jmaijmeh, near the village of Houla, is close to the edge of the Israeli-occupied zone in southern Lebanon. .
