Many dead in Pakistani train crash
Rescue services worked through the night at the scene of a train crash in central Pakistan, in which at least thirty-two people were killed and many more injured. It took more than ten hours to clear the wreckage, at Rustam Sargana, west of the Punjabi capital, Lahore. Most of the casualties were on a passenger train which hit a second train standing at the station. Reports from the area say visibility at the time was poor because of fog. Local hospitals declared an emergency and appealed for blood donations. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
