Comoros president appeals for national reconciliation
The president of the Comoros, Mohamed Taki, has announced a relaxation of the sanctions imposed on the separatist island of Anjouan, and lifted the ban on travel between the islands.). Speaking on state radio on his return home from a visit to France, President Taki appealed to the people of Anjouan to join in national reconciliation. But he made no mention of any further peace moves following the inconclusive end earlier this month to negotiations held with Organisation of African Unity mediators in Ethiopia. A BBC correspondent in Moroni says the OAU is sending a senior official to the Comoros to review the situation. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
