Yeltsin meets deputy premier Nemtsov to discuss wage arrears

Russian President Boris Yeltsin is meeting First Deputy Prime Minister Boris Nemtsov in the Kremlin, Interfax news agency reported on Wednesday.

It said they would discuss the socio-economic situation in the country and, in particular, the payment of wage arrears to public sector workers.

The agency also reported that the upper chamber of the Russian parliament, the Federation Council, decided on Wednesday to summon Nemtsov "to clarify his statements that the government has paid its arrears to public sector employees to the full." It recalled that on Monday, Nemtsov said the government would have finished transferring money to the regions for paying wage arrears by the following day, and that regional governors were responsible for any further steps in this area.
