Belgian prison guards on strike
More than half the guards from Belgium's thirty prisons have gone on a twenty-four strike over pay and conditions. The unions are demanding a lower retirement age and a shorter working week. They are also demanding payment of a Christmas bonus. About one-thousand Belgian policemen have been called in to help guard the more than eight-thousand prisoners.
