Muslim protesters destroy Indonesian church

Muslim protesters in Indonesia have destroyed a church near the capital, Jakarta.

A spokesman for the church said it was reduced to ruins by a five-hundred-strong crowd using stones and iron bars.

It's the latest of a series of attacks on churches which observers have blamed on growing resentment among Muslims of the wealth of the Christian community, many of whom are ethnic Chinese.

The Roman Catholic cardinal of Jakarta has urged Christians to keep their Christmas celebrations simple to avoid causing offence.

Indonesia's state intelligence authority has warned that religious extremism is increasing.
