IMF urges faster privatization in Tanzania

The International Monetary Fund has urged the government of Tanzania to reduce inflation and step up the pace of privatization, and warned that the country'seconomy is vulnerable to external shocks.

In a statement released after a review of the Tanzanian economy, the IMF also said it expected growth in Tanzania to rise to nearly five per cent next year, and for inflation to fall to 13 per cent.

The IMF said it regretted that privatization had not moved ahead as fast as planned, and added that a commitment to structural reforms would help the government in obtaining financial support.
