Americans warned not to go to Guyana
The United States has advised its citizens to delay non-essential travel to the South American country of Guyana because of violence which followed last week's general elections there. The State Department said there was no reason to believe that Americans would be specifically targetted -- but that the potential for unrest remained. The American-born Janet Jagan has been sworn-in as the new president of Guyana, but the opposition has alleged there was electoral fraud and the Supreme Court is to consider the matter next week.
