Romanian foreign minister says he'll resign

Romanian Foreign Minister Adrian Severin announced on Tuesday that he would resign, the Romanian news agency Rompres reported .

Severin's resignation comes after unproven allegations he made of involvement by some Romanian party leaders and journalists in work for foreign intelligence services, Rompres said.

"Romania's National Defence Council had asked Severin, in its last meeting this year, to assume political responsibility following the results of inquiries made by the Romanian Intelligence Service and the Romanian Foreign Intelligence Service into the allegations, which proved to be ungrounded.," the agency reported.
