Albanian former president returns
Albania's last communist president, Ramiz Alia, has returned to the country after escaping from prison in a mass jail-break earlier this year. At the time, Mr Alia was being held on charges of alleged complicity in the murder of Albanians trying to flee the country. Following his escape, he lived with his daughter in Sweden. His return now follows an Albanian court's decision, in October, to drop charges against him. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
