Britain welcomes Lockerbie report

The British government has welcomed a United Nations report which says the two Libyans suspected of the American airliner bombing over Lockerbie in Scotland can expect to receive a fair trial under the Scottish judicial system.

Britain had also invited the Arab League and the Organisation of African Unity to send teams to Scotland, but they did not take up the offer.

Libya has said it will only hand over the suspects to a neutral third country, because Britain and the United States will be prejudiced against them.
