Man held in Marcos millions fraud case

Police in Australia say a combined operation in three countries has uncovered a conspiracy to defraud a bank in London of more than a million dollars.

The allegations concern false gold certificates passed off as belonging to the late president of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos.

According to police, an Australian man approached the Rothschild Bank in London saying he owned a share of President Marcos's assets.

He was arrested when he returned to Melbourne.

Earlier reports spoke of a total of about six billion dollars being involved, but Rothschild's say that amount was not sought from them.
