Russian miners protest over backpay
About two-hundred Russian miners have blocked the Trans-Siberian railway in central Siberia to demand wages that have not paid for the past six months. The miners from the town of Anzhero-Sudzhensk brought commuter and freight services to a halt. There were reports of a large police presence at the site, trying to negotiate with the protesters. About one-hundred miners from another Siberian town, Novokuznetsk were also reported to have staged a sit-in demonstration about overdue wages. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
