Toyota suspends car production in the Philippines

The Japanese car manufacturer, Toyota, has announced that its two plants in the Philippines will remain closed for a full month because of falling demand.

A company spokesman in Tokyo said the closure was aimed at reducing the number of unsold cars at a time when the market had been hit by the financial turmoil in the region.

Production at the two plants is expected to resume on January the eighteenth.
