Plavsic urges Clinton to be patient

The Bosnian Serb President, Biljana Plavsic, has urged President Clinton to show patience over the implementation of the 1995 peace accord for Bosnia Hercegovina.

Mrs Plavsic says she told Mr Clinton, at a meeting in Sarajevo, that real progress could come only hand-in-hand with economic revival; higher living standards would change the way people thought.

Mrs Plavsic said she believed that aid for the Bosnian Serbs would now be forthcoming.

During his brief visit, Mr Clinton also met Muslim and Croat leaders.

And in a televised address, he told Bosnians that only they could bring about a lasting peace.

At the end of his visit, he talked to American troops in the NATO-led force at their base in Tuzla.
