Egyptian police generals court-martialled over Luxor massacre

A court in Egypt has been told that senior police officials in Luxor ignored security warnings prior to last month's massacre in which almost sixty foreign tourists were killed.

The accusation was made when two police generals appeared at a disciplinary court, accused of negligence in connection with the attack.

The accused are the former security chief of Luxor and his deputy , who were demoted after the attack.

Four lower-ranking officers have been charged with negligence at a separate hearing; all six deny the charges.

Correspondents say the officers face dismissal and could be referred for criminal investigation.
