Ousted president visits Sierra Leone

The deposed president of Sierra Leone, Ahmed Tejan Kabbah, has visited his country for the first time since he was overthrown in a military coup in May.

Mr Kabbah flew from Guinea to a peninsula across the river from the capital Freetown, which is controlled by a Nigerian-led peace keeping force ECOMOG.After returning to Guinea, he told the BBC that his aim had been to rally his supporters and thank the peace keeping troops for their efforts to reinstate him.

Mr Kabbah attacked the coup leader, Major Johny Paul Koroma, for going back on an agreement to hand back power to civilians next year.
