Bosnian police arrest 16 people accused of terrorism

Police in Bosnia have arrested sixteen people, mainly from Islamic countries, suspected of involvement in what they called terrorist activity.

An official statement, which did not give the nationalities of the suspects, said large quantities of arms and ammunition were seized, as well as materials for forging documents and vehicle registration plates.

The statements said some of the group are suspects in recent attacks on a Franciscan monastery and a Catholic church in central Bosnia.

They are also suspected of attacking targets connected with the IFOR peackekeeping force last year.

Under the terms of the Dayton peace accords, all foreign fighters were obliged to leave Bosnia.

But some remained and obtained Bosnian citizenship through marriage.
