Moi says opposition trailing in his wake - literally
Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi on Friday ridiculed opposition
presidential candidates who he said were following him
throughout the campaign for this month's elections in an
attempt to take advantage of the huge crowds he was attracting,
Kenyan state radio reported.
Addressing a campaign rally at Nakuru railway station, Moi
said that after realizing that they could not attract their own
crowds to solicit for votes, opposition politicians had
resorted to the tactic of following him.
Moi said his ruling KANU party was confident of winning
the elections on 29th December, since it was ahead of other
parties both in fielding parliamentary and civic candidates and
in popularity.
He said he had been impressed to note that
KANU's support was "overwhelming" even in areas otherwise
regarded as opposition strongholds.
