Miami Archbishop reconsiders Cuba peace cruise
A spokesman for the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Miami, John Favalora, says he's reconsidering his plan to sail with hundreds of pilgrims in a cruise liner to Cuba during the Pope's visit next month. The announcement came after twenty prominent Cuban-exiles in Miami and other Hispanics signed a petition denouncing the cruise as offensive and insensitive, and urged the Archbishop to cancel it. They said the cruise would be used by President Castro to his political advantage and urged the Church not to allow itself to be used as Castro's pawn. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
