Iranian envoy visits prisoners

The Taleban movement in Afghanistan says it's given an Iranian diplomat access to fifteen Iranian prisoners that the Taleban are holding in the city of Kandahar.

A senior Taleban official, Wakil Ahmed Mutawakkil, told the BBC that the Iranian consul-general based in Nangahar had visited the prisoners on Wednesday.

He said their presence was evidence of Iranian interference in Afghanistan.

Mr Mutawakkil also said that the Iranian had invited the Taleban to send a delegation to Tehran for talks, but that the Taleban had not yet decided whether to attend.
