UN appeals for food for Uganda

The United Nations has appealed for nearly thirteen million dollars of food to be sent to northern Uganda to help a quarter of a million displaced people.

The UN's World Food Programme said the villagers had fled their homes in the Gulu and Kitgum districts to escape attacks by the Lord's Resistance Army, which has been waging an armed campaign for nearly a decade.

It said the people were now living in camps, where they would need food until the next harvest six months from now.
