Kenyan presidential candidate teargassed
Police in western Kenya have fired tear gas and beaten supporters of an opposition candidate in this month's presidential elections, Charity Ngilu. The incident happened after security forces stopped Mrs Ngilu entering an area which President Moi had declared a security zone, effectively barring opposition candidates from campaigning there. A crowd gathered when she went to the nearby town of Kisii to complain, but police moved in with tear gas and started beating people. One tear gas canister hit the vehicle carrying Mrs Ngilu. The BBC East Africa correspondent says it's the most serious incident in the run-up to the poll in ten days time. Mrs Ngilu called the incident an outrage.
