Mauritanian President names new cabinet

The President of Mauritania, Maaouya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya, has appointed a new cabinet.

He named a new prime minister -- Mohamed Lamine Ould Guig -- and new ministers of foreign affairs, defence, justice, planning and the interior.

The Finance Minister, Camara Aly Gueludio, retains his post.

President Taya was re-elected for another six year term last week, winning more than ninety per cent of the votes.

The main opposition parties boycotted the ballot, saying it couldn't be fair without an independent election commission.
