US to stay in Bosnia after next June

President Clinton has announced that American troops will stay on in Bosnia beyond the expiry of next June's deadline.

He said the force's size and remit would be determined by all NATO partners, and the troops would stay until political and economic stability had been established.

However, the BBC Washington correspondent says the open-ended nature of the force is bound to raise Republican suspicions in Congress.
