Argentine Opposition launches moves to sack judges

The opposition alliance in Argentina says it's convening a special Congressional debate to try to dismiss five Supreme Court judges who've voted to allow the government to privatise the country's airports by decree.

The judges, all of them appointed by President Menem, over-ruled six judgements by lower courts who'd ruled the move was unconstitutional.

Four independent Supreme Court judges voted against the government.

The opposition had argued that public services can only be privatised with the approval of Congress.

Correspondents say the opposition alliance is in a minority in Congress but may be supported by other parties.
