German students clash with police

Police in Germany have clashed with students who tried to reach the offices of Chancellor Kohl during protests against government education cuts.

A group of protesters was baton-charged by police after throwing smoke bombs and eggs.

At least two students were injured.

Tens-of-thousands of students had massed in Bonn for the protests, the latest in a series, which have otherwise been peaceful.

A BBC Correspondent in Germany says that there's real anger among German students that the university population has doubled in the last twenty years, while spending has fallen in real terms.
