Talking Point Should killers be let back into society?
Moors murderer Myra Hindley has been told she will spend the rest of her life in prison. She had appealed against a decision by the Home Secretary, Jack Straw, not to release her after 31 years, but her application has been rejected by the High Court.
This comes a day after the early release of nine IRA prisoners by the Irish government, two of whom had been serving sentences for murder. In a move seen by observers as an attempt to help the Northern Ireland peace process, the Irish government has also allowed three other high-risk prisoners to spend Christmas at home, though they must return to prison afterwards.
The move is said to have dismayed many of the murder victims' relatives, though prisom reformers say everyone deserves the hope of freedom.
Pre-meditated murderers should know that
the consequences for their actions will
be severe....
If a prisoner is no longer a threat to society and has paid their debt, they
should be freed...
Being from a country and a state that still seeks an eye for an eye, a live
broadcast of the execution should be shown on television.... |
