Japanese opposition leader re-elected
Japan's main opposition party, the New Frontier Party, has re-elected Ichiro Ozawa as its leader. Mr Ozawa, who helped to found the party three years ago, defeated his only challenger, Michihiko Kano, by two-hundred-and-thirty votes to one-hundred-and-eighty-two. In recent months, several prominent party members have called for Mr Ozawa to stand down, accusing him of leading the New Frontier Party to a succession of election defeats. He's come in for particularcriticism over opposition tactics towards Japan's current economic troubles. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
