PNG army rebels jailed for mutiny

Reports from Papua New Guinea say five army officers involved in a revolt earlier this year have been given long jail sentences after being convicted of mutiny.

A military court in Port Moresby ordered that they should serve their sentences - which range from five to ten years - in separate prisons to reduce the risk of a jailbreak.

One of the officers Major Walter Enuma was involved in an earlier revolt when the army turned against a group of foreign mercenaries hired by the government to try to crush secessionist rebels on the island of Bougainville.
