Wednesday, December 17, 1997 Published at 21:45 GMT UK William and Ffion get an eyeful! William Hague with his bride-to-be Ffion at the Notting Hill Carnival
A stripper ignored freezing temperatures and went topless as Tory leader William Hague and his fiancee Ffion Jenkins arrived for a pre-wedding party at a top London club.
As the couple's car drew up at the reception laid on for Tory parliamentarians at the Carlton Club in central London, the woman bared herself in what is thought to have been intended as a comic stunt.
Unfazed, Mr Hague and Miss Jenkins joined about 400 guests inside to enjoy champagne and canapes.
Only a few MPs have been invited to the couple's wedding at the small House of Commons crypt chapel on Friday.
There had been previous speculation that some Tory MPs were unhappy at being asked to pay £10 towards gifts for the happy couple but only five MP's had been invited to the ceremony.
Commenting on the incident at the Carlton Club a Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police were alerted by the staff at the Carlton Club to a disturbance outside.
"Police attended and there was no trace found of the woman. There were no further problems."
