English football teams left in Europe are treating their ties with cautious confidence.
Manchester United have been drawn against Monaco in the European Cup, Chelsea will play Real Betis in the Cup Winners Cup and EUFA Cup representatives Aston Villa will meet another Spanish team, Atletico Madrid.
The Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson, believes his side can overcome French league leaders Monaco. But he warns against complacency.
He said: "We have a great chance of advancing to the semi-finals but we should not get carried away."
After the draw United were installed as the bookmakers' favourites.
In London, the Chelsea manager, Ruud Gullit, was looking forward to a tough tie against in-form Real Betis.
Chelsea spokesman Gwyn Williams said: "It's a hard draw but when you get to the quarter-final stage of any European competition, there are no easy draws."
Aston Villa, who will play away in the first leg, are relishing the tie against Atletico Madrid, conquerors of Leicester City in the first round.
The Spanish club had said they wanted to play Villa because they 'knew the English style of play.'
After the draw the Villa chairman, Doug Ellis, said: "I am not displeased. I am looking forward to it. I hope we can surprise them."
