Again, family life is too blame for a vast majority of cases, you bring a child into this world, you should look after it, let it fly the nest when it can.
Ian Mellors, UK

You only have to look around at the empty buildings in any town or city. Why can't the government do something to give the homeless access to these buildings. In Dover we have a huge army barracks that is now deserted and has been for years. It could have housed hundreds of less fortunate people.
Greg Mckenzie, Uk

Yes we should do more to help the homeless, and a good start would be to understand that simply providing shelter is not enough. People who are homeless need the means of accumulating the substantial resources necessary to move to a "normal" existance, and that means a stable living environment, and a job, or the means to find a job, and so on. Simply to present someone with a bed for the night may make us feel better, but it doesn't solve the long term problem.
Therion Ware, Malaysia

The homeless can't be ignored in the way they are. With a little effort from us who do have a home to go to, we could make a change. Support them with the tax-money.
Svein Taraldsen Norway

Most homeless people are not in that position through choice. They may have become homeless through losing their job or been forced to leave home as a youngster because of abuse, for instance. Many also end up in this situation when they leave childrens' homes once they become adults. It is unfair to decry them all as layabouts and drop-outs. Most of them would prefer to have a stable home but are the the catch 22 situation of not being able to afford accommodation because they're unemployed and not being able to get a job because they have no fixed address. Providing these people with homes would help enormously as they'd then find it easier to get a job and break out of the cycle of despair they're currently trapped in.
Neil Tonks, UK

We need to do more for the homeless, and DIFFERENTLY. Preferably before people become homeless, why wait until peole have lost so much? Some have no family left. For some, family is the problem not the answer. Next time you see a homeless person, ask them their story. They have one.
Spring Roberts, UK

It makes me despair when I think of all the buildings lying empty in London. It couldn't cost much for the government to turn them into shelters, especially since they have to pay for the upkeep of the buildings anyway.
Moreover, the general public could contribute. What about a Homeless in Need day, rather like the Children in Need appeal?
Sabrina Subramanyam, London

Many destitute people have lost homes and jobs through extremely unfortunate occurrences and just giving them somewhere to live is not enough.
Some of these people will have lost their self-esteem, have psychological disorders, suffer from alcoholism and so on. Community support is vital to their rehabilitation.
Lesley Brown, Birmingham, England

I can't understand how people can become so desperate that they really and truly have nowhere to go? Shouldn't their families be made to take some responsibility?
John McAndrew, Brighton, England
