Papal envoy calls for peace in Chiapas

The Pope's envoy to Mexico, Justo Mullor Garcia, has called for the resumption of the peace process between the government and the Zapatista rebels in the southern state of Chiapas.

Negotiations have been stalled for more than a year after the rebels accused the government of failing to fulfill its promises.

The comments by the papal envoy, who is on a visit to the region, followed an increase in violent clashes between Zapatista and government supporters, forcing people to flee for safety from their villages.
