Congo seeks probe into refugee killings in Rwanda

The Democratic Republic of Congo has asked the United Nations Security Council to investigate the massacre of hundreds of Tutsi refugees in north-west Rwanda last week.

Congo's ambassador to the U.N., Andre Kapanga, said the country was indignant at the silence of the international community over the latest killings at a time when a team was beginning to investigate alleged refugee massacres in the former Zaire.

Rwandan officials say around three-hundred people were killed by Hutu rebels in the attack on a camp for Congolese refugees at Mudende; survivors have alleged, however, that the true number of dead is more than fifteen-hundred.
