Ghana police too quick to draw guns

The police chief in Ghana has told his officers they are too quick to draw their guns.

State radio said Ghana's inspector general of police, Peter Nanfuri, warned that officers who wrongfully used their weapons would be prosecuted.

He said the use of firearms is to be restricted within the police force.

Correspondents say the warning follows a recent spate of shooting incidents in Ghana when the police opened fire on demonstrators.

The police chief said some police officers resorted to rifle fire at the least provocation.
