Paraguay's former army chief says rights violated
The former head of the Paraguayan army, Lino Oviedo -- who's serving a thirty day sentence for insulting the president -- has complained that he's being deprived of his rights. Mr Oviedo says limits being placed on his visitors are in breach of the constitution. The former general -- who was chosen in September as the ruling party's presidential candidate -- is serving his sentence at an infantry barracks. He was stripped of his military rank following allegations that he attempted to lead a military coup last year -- something he denies. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
