Political motive suspected in Mexican shooting

The main left-wing party in Mexico -- the PRD Party of the Democratic Revolutionhas said it suspects a political motive for the killing of one its regional leaders at the weekend.

A party spokesman in Guadaljara said the organisation was in possession of -- as he put it -- various facts which indicated the killing was political.

The victim, Demetrio Margarito Moreno, was gunned down in the town of Cocula on Sunday.

In addition to his political work, he was the editor of a local magazine.
