Huge meteor lands in Greenland
Danish air force planes have been searching the vast uninhabited areas of Greenland for a huge meteor which is believed to have struck the island. The search began after a giant flash was reported by fisherman working off Greenland's east coast and was recorded by a security camera in a car-park in the capital, Nuuk. A spokesman at the main planetarium in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, said they had good reason to believe a giant meteor had landed and that it was still in one piece. Such rocks usually explode or break up as they enter the Earth's atmosphere, travelling at more than 12,000 kms per hour. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
