Talking Point

Are we too worried about television violence?

Most British television viewers find violence on the small screen "no problem" says a new report.

The survey, comissioned by the ITC, the Broadcasting Standards Commission and Britain's main television channels, says that young males in particular have a high tolerance of violence. In fact many enjoy the thrill of the build up to a violent scene. Adult dramas and real life events (like boxing or news) cause the most concern, where as James Bond films come bottom of the list.

The report will surprise many television watchdogs who have previously expressed fears that violence on TV had reached unacceptable levels. What do you think of television violence - is it at about the right level? How do different cultures deal with the problem?
