Japanese officials question Chinese immigrants

The authorities in Japan have begun questioning about one-thousand Chinese immigrants suspected of entering the country illegally.

They are thought to have posed as relatives of Japanese children who were left behind in China at the end of World War Two.

Officials in the city of Osaka say that since 1995 many Chinese citizens have obtained permission to live in Japan by forging documents which show family ties with the displaced Japanese nationals.

The "war orphans", as they're known, were left by their parents when Japan's occupation of China ended.
