A 1-0 win against Villa means United have their sights set firmly on the title

The goal, Ryan Giggs' fourth of the season was a left foot shot through goalkeeper Michael Oakes' legs in the 52nd minute.

The England striker, Terry Sheringham, missed a harshly-awarded penalty in the 66th minute, one of several good chances wasted by United who found Villa centre-back, Ugo Ehiogu, in great form.

United, with the best attacking and defensive records in the league, have 40 points from 18 games ahead of Blackburn with 36 and Chelsea on 35.

Air-crash testimonial planned

Manchester United plan to play a top European side in a testimonial match that will raise money for the survivors and families of the victims of the Munich aircrash.

In the past, the club has been criticised for not doing enough to help those affected by the crash, which happened in 1958.

Robin Anderson reports on the tragedy that rocked the club 39 years ago (Dur: 52")
Among those who died were eight Manchester United players and three staff. Nine other players and the manager, Matt Busby, survived.

Exactly who will play United in the testimonial has not yet been arranged, but Red Star Belgrade, the last team to play them before the tragedy, have been mentioned.

It is hoped the match will raise up to £1m for those affected. No date has yet been set.
