Late Albanian dictator's house blown up

A powerful device has exploded at the house where the late Albanian dictator, Enver Hoxha, was born.

Police said one woman was slightly injured in the blast on Monday night in the southern town of Gjirokaster.

The house, which served as a museum dedicated to the Second World War, was reported to have been damaged, as were several other surrounding buildings.

Enver Hoxha ruled Albania single-handedly for nearly half-a-century until his death in 1985.

His numerous statues around the country were removed with the fall of communism seven years ago.
