A 39-year-old man is in hospital after a shooting on a street in the West End of Newcastle.
The incident happened just before 1000 BST on Monday on Westmorland Road at its junction with Rye Hill, near Newcastle College.
The man is in hospital where his injuries are not life-threatening.
Rye Hill has been cordoned off while Northumbria Police officers search the area and are also carrying out house-to-house inquiries.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said they are keen to speak to anyone who goes to the college or any other witnesses.
