Three questioned over fatal crash

Police have arrested three men in connection with a car crash on Tyneside in which two people died.

The incident happened just before 1400 BST on Wednesday on the Great North Road northbound, near the Town Moor, in Newcastle.

Police said it involved three cars, one - a Jaguar saloon - left the scene. The drivers of the other cars were killed.

Police said the Jaguar has been traced but they want to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash.

The Great North Road was closed in both directions from the central motorway to the Blue House roundabout.

Police have set up an incident room and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
