Female managers in Cumbria believe their gender has hampered their careers according to new research.
Forty volunteers from the county were interviewed by a team from Lancaster University's Centre for Training and Development.
The project was started a year ago to investigate the problems women face.
So far it has revealed that they often feel they are working in isolation, without support, and with limited opportunity to progress.
The researchers set up groups in Barrow, South Lakeland and Penrith, made up of women with a wide range of age and experience of work.
They were asked to identify and solve problems faced by women managers in the workplace.
