Controlled explosion on WWII bomb
An unexploded World War II bomb found by a busy road in Surrey has been detonated under controlled conditions.

The device was unearthed by builders at 0945 BST on Monday at a building site next to the A286 at Grayswood.

The discovery of the Spigot mortar bomb closed the road between the town hall at Haslemere and the Cherry Tree roundabout at Milford for a few hours.

A number of houses in the surrounding area were evacuated while bomb disposal teams made the device safe.

The road was re-opened at 1400 BST on Monday.

Inspector David Birmingham, from Surrey Police, said everything had gone according to plan.
