Detectives investigating a stabbing in Darlington have released details of a man they want to question.
Jeffrey Brown, 31, was stabbed several times in the back after a disturbance at 1600 BST on Sunday in Grange Road.
He had emergency surgery and had to have one of his kidneys removed and is now described as being in a poorly but stable condition
Durham Police say they want to speak to Wayne Armstrong, 29, who has not been seen since the incident.
Police said a disturbance involving a number of people started in one of four flats in a house on Grange Road and spilled out on to the street.
Mr Brown, from the Spennymoor area, had been staying in one of the flats.
Motive unclear
Police cordoned off a section of Grange Road between Harewood Terrace and Blackwell Lane for an examination of the area and house to house inquiries are being carried out.
Police said Mr Armstrong, who is also from the Spennymoor area, lived in one of the flats.
He is described as white, 6ft, slim build, clean shaven with blue eyes and close cropped blond straight hair.
Police say he should not be approached but to contact them.
Detective Superintendent Harry Stephenson said: "We have so far been unable to speak to the victim and the motive for the attack is for the present unclear.
"There were people in the area at the time both on foot and passing in vehicles. We need to speak to them as quickly as possible."
