Man is killed by freight train

An investigation is under way after a man was killed when he was hit by a freight train in Lancashire.

Police were called to the incident on the line at Oxhayes in the early hours of Monday.

The man, thought to be in his 50s, was hit by the train, which was travelling from Grangemouth, Cumbria, to Daventry, Northamptonshire.

The incident caused disruption to all train services north of Preston for most of the morning.
